Saluting the arrival of the British Summer...

On Saturday 350 of London's most dedicated Luon wearers joined up to partake in the first mass outdoor yoga session in the UK.  That's right 350 lycra clad bottoms were raised to the skies in the Covent Garden Piazza, much to the amusement of the passing tourists and waiting street performers.

All I can say is that London needs more outdoor yoga classes.  Rachel, Celest and Emma led a fun and inspiring class and the atmosphere was awesome.  Way to go London Yogis!

"I am a Yogini", no go on really say that with a serious face...

The other day it came to my attention that there is a prevalence in the Yoga community for taking themselves very seriously, and I wondered why that is.  Then I was flicking through my facebook feed last night and I noticed that the Yoga Journal (an oh-so-serious-bastion-of-high-yoganess) had an article entitled "Yoga with a sense of humour".  As it was 10:30 at night and I was heading home from work (ironic, yes) I wasn't in the mood, however it is now Friday afternoon and I decided to take a look.

The article wasn't up to much (http://blogs.yogajournal.com/yogabuzz/2011/08/yoga-with-a-sense-of-humor.html), however click on the link to the duo in question's opening gambit... and see below, it really made me chuckle.

"Look at me I'm on a mutherf@ck'n waterfall"

The posts come from a couple who operate under the Pseudonym "Yoga TM" and are the partnership behind the movie The Yogi.  Both Yoga practitioners they saw the irony in receiving a speeding ticket because you were running late for Yoga class, and barging people out of the way to get to a favored spot in the shala.

Damman and Thomas describe their project called the Yogi tm as a "Yoga positive feature comedy about several fictitious yoga posers competing in the Pose Off of the Century."
